ROGER J. WHYTE is the President of The Whyte Group, Inc., Executive Search Consultants. With over eighteen years in executive search and 25 years of hospitality industry management and senior government experience, his background and hundreds of senior level relationships allow him to lead a successful and growing executive search practice.
Prior to forming The Whyte Group, Inc., Mr. Whyte was the Chief Executive Officer of the Jefferson Group Executive Search, Inc. Before joining the Jefferson Group, he was the Managing Director of the Hospitality Industry Practice of the sixth largest executive search company in the United States. Previously Mr. Whyte served as the Presidential appointed Deputy Under Secretary of Commerce for Travel and Tourism. There he directed the day-to-day operations of the $15 million U.S. Government agency.
Earlier Mr. Whyte served as a Special Assistant to the Secretary of Labor for International Affairs. Mr. Whyte represented the Secretary of Labor at numerous international conferences as well as overseeing a $2 billion Human Resources Development Project in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Previously he was a Director of Marketing for Marriott Hotels and Resorts, managing the marketing and sales efforts at numerous Marriott Hotels.
During the 1980 campaign, Mr. Whyte served as the Director of Operations for the Vice Presidential Campaign of then Ambassador George Bush. Earlier, Mr. Whyte served as the Director of Advance for the Office of Vice President Nelson A. Rockefeller.
Mr. Whyte is a former Presidential appointed Commissioner on the National Commission for Employment Policy and a member of the Board of the Industry Sector Advisory Committee on Service Industry to the Secretary of Commerce and the U.S. Trade Representative. He was also a member of the Advisory Board to the U.S. House of Representatives Tourism Caucus.
Mr. Whyte's undergraduate education was at Ithaca College in Ithaca, New York and at The American University in Washington, D.C. He attended Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government for the Governmental Management Program.
